St. George Gymnasium of Zugdidi was established in 1995 and consists of the following educational
steps: Elementary group of Kinder-garden; Elementary School – I – VI grade, Pre-Gymnasium – VII – IX grade, Gymnasium – X – XII grade. The Gymnasium provides additional support for vulnerable
students. It is a private school, supported by orthodox church and the state.
Aims of the Gymnasium:
- To bring up and educate youth on the principles of human values;
- To work on practical and theoretical methods within the Human Rights Education;
- To assist youth personal development;
- To reconstruct Georgian schools’ national traditions and combine them with modern methods;
At the moment, the Gymnasium consists of around 520 pupils and there 75 teachers. The main
target group are children and youth with fewer opportunities coming from rural areas (special
busses are provided), orphan families, IDP families or they are facing social and economical
difficulties.
The staff of our Gymnasium is experienced in working with people from various European countries
– a potential supervisor was studying in Germany, mentors were doing EVS in different EU countries
and some teachers got their education in Europe.
