Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa - Delegação de Frazão was created on October 1993, with the aim of combating the high accident rate of the time and to help address the needs in terms of relief and social support.
As the local structure of the Portuguese Red Cross, it aligns with the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Volunteering, Unity and Universality. These principles govern our mission to provide humanitarian and social assistance, in particular to the most vulnerable, preventing and remedying suffering and contributing to the defence of life, health and human dignity.
Rescue and Transport:
The Rescue and Transportation teams are composed of volunteers and professionals trained to provide first aid for health, pre-hospital emergency and transport of patients.
Psychosocial Support:
The area of psychosocial support of our delegation is essentially dedicated to the distribution of basic necessities to the local population, after having duly identified the needs by the competent institutions. We also provide psychological consultations free of charge to the population and have a small shop for second-hand clothing and decoration, with symbolic prices. In the face of a request for help from the community to which we are unable to respond, it is our responsibility to indicate the competent institution to attend to it, supporting the whole process.
More recently, the "Casa Amiga" was inaugurated, a space designed to accommodate people in situations of social emergency. The building includes a kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom and is ready to welcome the local community whenever needed.
Youth:
The youth department of our delegation was created in December 2013 and was essential for our work to reach the youngest. Guided also by the Fundamental Principles of the institution, members of the Red Cross Youth carry out their work on the basis of volunteering and with the main objective of promoting the resilience of children and young people in the local community.
Our target groups are children (5-11 years), adolescents (12-17 years) and young adults (18-35 years), who participate in the organization as volunteers, beneficiaries and leaders/agents of positive change.
We develop our work from a peer education perspective, from young people to young people, and we use non-formal education methodologies, focusing on the following areas of intervention: health promotion and education; social inclusion; education for development and international cooperation; employability, entrepreneurship and active citizenship; environmental education; and humanitarian education.
