A szervezet leírása

The Nautical Club of Limnos (NCL) was established in 1987 by a group of engaged Limnians, with the aim to complete the great nautical tradition of our island. The Club validated its status and legal entity by the Greek State in the same year. Due to its intense activity from 1990 onwards and the many and great distinctions it has achieved, NCL is the "jewel" and the pride of all Limnos.

History and aims
Based in Myrina, Limnos, the Nautical Club of Limnos started operating on 9-3-1990 with its inaugural General Assembly. Despite the adverse conditions and inhibitory factors met in its course, the Club has developed rich and remarkable activity, it has achieved significant contribution and continues to give its potential present to this day. The purpose of the Club is to spread the adoption of nautical sports and the development of the athletic spirit and the love for the sea.

Location
The facilities of NCL are located in Romeikos Gialos in Myrina, on a plot of the State Real Estate Company, granted to the General Secretariat of Sports for the use of the Limnos Nautical Club.

NCL has the following athletic departments:

• Technical Swimming
• Underwater Activity

Community of athletes
NCL counts 200 athletes, namely at least 50 permanent athletes yearly, plus at least 150 at the summer period (early June to early September). The age of our athletes starts at 4 years old (initiation to swimming classes for pupils), up to seniors (in the underwater activity department). The most popular age tranche is 9 to 25 years old, especially for rowing, swimming and canoe/kayak.

Achievements- Rowing
Rowing is the most prominent department of NCL. Since 1991 its athletes participate in Panhellenic championships. They have achieved Pan-Hellenic victories and have won decent positions, especially in small categories of children, adolescents. Some have joined the national teams and have joined international competitions. The first international success of a NCL athlete was the 2nd place in the Balkan Games 2002 by Giorgos Sakharov in children quadruple skiff. Outstanding was the success of rowers Panagiotis Magdanis and Pavlos Pravlis, who became
Greek champions in the junior double skiff and Pravlis in the children's skiff. They also competed with the national rowing team in the 2008 Balkan Games, where they won three medals: Magdanis won a gold medal in the junior double skiff and bronze in the quadruple junior skiff and Pravlis won a gold medal in the same children's event. He has also promoted the Pan-Hellenic teenager Costas Tsopanos. The coach at that time was Niki Hatziargyriou.
In 2010 NCL team won many medals at the 10th Aegean Games that was organized in the Roman Gialos in Myrina, Limnos. NCL won 7 gold medals in the 16 games of the program. 2010 was an exceptional year for NCL’s top athlete Panagiotis Magdanis. He joined the national rowing team and on 25/7/2010 won the gold medal at the Under-23 World Championships held in Brest, Belarus, in the "lightweight double sculls" category with partner Lefteris Konsolas of the Salamis Nautical Club. Magdanis Panagiotis deserves a special mention as he took the 8th & 6th place on 2012 Olympics, held in Eaton, London and Rio, Brazil, accordingly. In addition, Charalambos Raphael Didenis became World Champion in the category of Adolescents and men under 23 years.

Achievements- Underwater activity
Since 1992 the Nautical Club of Limnos participates in the Panhellenic Championships and Cups mainly in spearfishing. In 1994 the Club took part in the World Championship in Chile. Its athletes have won national championships: 2002 and 2006, second places in 2003 and 2004 and third place in 2007. In 2007 they won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Spain.

International recognition of the NCL achievements
The continuous successes of our athletes in World, Panhellenic and Balkan championships made Limnos known in the World Athletic Family, a fact that particularly fills all Limnians with pride and optimism. They deserve, therefore, many congratulations and praises to all those who fought for its establishment and continue to this day to strive for the development of the Limnos Nautical Club.

The founding members of the Club, all the members of its current and previous Steering Committees deserve congratulations for their commitment in the shared goal and for their investment of personal time and effort, in the true spirit of civic engagement and volunteering (no financial benefit or compensation) to support the day-to-day organization of NCL.
