Handicap International in Luxembourg is an independent international solidarity association, member of the Handicap International network, which has been working for 35 years in situations of poverty and exclusion as well as conflicts and disasters. Working alongside disabled and vulnerable people, Handicap International acts and testifies to meet their basic needs and improve their living conditions. Since its creation in 1982, Handicap International has set up development programs in more than 60 countries and is involved in many emergency situations. Handicap International is one of the six founding associations of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), co-winner of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize and winner of the 2011 Conrad N. Hilton Award. Handicap International acts and testifies wherever "Standing up" is not easy.
Like the 7 other national member associations of the Handicap International network (Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States), Handicap International in Luxembourg is constantly working on resource mobilization, project co-management and the influence of the principles as well as the actions of the organization.
It also informs, educates and mobilizes public opinion on the major challenges of global citizenship. Since its creation in 1997, Handicap International Luxembourg has been striving to make understand the contexts in which vulnerable people and people with disabilities live, whether they are victims of war, accidents, natural disasters or suffer from diseases.
In Luxembourg, Handicap International's activities are concentrated in six main areas:
- Development Education and Awareness (EDS)
- Political advocacy
- Monitoring of field projects and technical support
