Organisatsiooni kirjeldus:

Microkosmos is an independent, non-profit, European organization established in 2016 in Italy. The objective of Microkosmos is to promote diversity, interculturality and raise awareness of different cultural expressions and their values in order to encourage the development of cultural interaction with the goal of bringing young people closer together and closing the cultural gaps.
In the beginning, the main activities focused on promoting and spreading Greek culture, both classic and modern, at national and international level. Due to new entries in Microkosmos’ family and the participation of key members in several projects with different institutions and organizations, the strategic focus was formed in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN and the education and training goals set by the European Commission in the EU 2020 strategy.
Microkosmos aims to promote:
- non-formal learning through activities that help young people improve their mobility and their awareness of cultural, educational, political and economic diversity in Europe and to promote training programs which will improve their skills and cooperation thus coping with the challenging labor market.
- collaboration with government and local authorities in order to boost social integration and fight discriminations
- social inclusion and cultural accessibility through adapting and transcribing the cultural, scientific and legal texts.
- dissemination of knowledge through releasing and / or distributing books, multimedia tools, studies or researches.
- organization or participation in training activities (seminars, conferences, training and educational courses, labs, training workshops etc.).
artistic creation and interculturalism.
The organization operates based on the principles of social solidarity with an interdisciplinary method for empowering the cultural growth of young people– of any ethnicity and origin – favoring instruments of interpretation of the different artistic and socio-cultural realities. The philosophy is to recognize the uniqueness of individuals, and provide them with tools, knowledge and critical thinking.
And some indicative activities to fulfill its goals are:
- the design and publication of the First Practical Guide to the International Signs, available free of charge through ibooks (IOS) International Signs: A Practical Kit, in cooperation with the Turin Institute of Deaf, thus endeavoring to disseminate the importance of quality, inclusive education for all and promoting lifelong learning (4th objective of Agenda 2030). Through the promotion of the International Signal, any communication barriers around the world between the Deaf people are being removed. Deaf people have easier access to job opportunities around the world (8th objective), while at the same time a targeted effort is being made to remove the social, linguistic and cultural inequalities faced daily by the Deaf at a global level (10th objective). This e-book is designed in accordance with Articles 30 and 32 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2006).
- “Long distances”, Peni Papoutsi’s first collection of poems. Peni in her effort to decipher her emotions and thoughts, caused by her experiences, created a hearty and meaningful collection, whicl was showcased in sign language to promote social inclusion.
- “The classical traedy between ancient and modern Greek: proposal of a didactic method”, a diachronic analysis of Euripides’ Medea and a systematic comparison between the original and its main translation published in Greek context. The work focuses on strictly grammatical themes and offers; on the one hand the opportunity to extend the present method of analysis to more texts, and on the other hand the possibility of investigating further aspects of the evolution of the Greek language.
- “Dechirichian Metaphysics and 20th Century Architecture” and “The Greek heritage in the art of Giorgio de Chirico”, a journey in Chirico’s paintings that have influenced the architecture of the twentieth century and the “prelude” of Metaphysical art.
- the participation in the EasyReading project, the internationally only font explicitly “dedicated” to dyslexic readers which, subjected to autonomous and independent scientific researches on the degree of legibility, has achieved positive results.
- the organization of cultural exhibitions and annually seminars regarding the soft skills addressed to unemployed young people, disabled, (im)migrants and refugees in collaboration with the University of Turin.
- the conduction of the examinations for certification of the Greek language in Turin (Italy).
