VAMOS - Basiliko Athlitiko Morfotiko Orthodoxo Somateio - organization was founded on November 7th 2003 at Dali (district of Nicosia-Cyprus) by the veteran international footballer and today football coach Koullis Kyriakou, who had played for cypriot football clubs and for the National Football team of Cyprus in the '80s.
Therefore, VAMOS was born as Football Academy for young footballers with an inclusion purpose. Thereafter, a women's football team was created and it took part in the Cypriot First Division of women's football in Cyprus.
Starting from that point, the Organization became much more articolated, and it started to invest more on culture, solidarity, inclusion and european citizenship, beyond the sporting activities (athletics, swimming, football, tennis), that today are more focused on inclusion and well-being. In addiction, the staff chose to start a communication with some organizations all over Europe, starting to take part in some Projects, like Erasmus+, and therefore, to keep being in contact with the abovementioned organizations. In the meanwhile VAMOS started a sensibilization process, mostly for the youngsters in Cyprus, to make them closer to the concept of European Union. Today, the president of the association is Maria Kyriakou, art expert, active in the field of education, inclusion and volunteering. The future perspective of the present organization is to keep on investing on the concept of volunteering, inclusion and citizenship, at local, national and european level, trying to involve as many young people as possible. VAMOS Organization was actually born thanks to the willingness of a volunteers group: they joined the organization all together and made it possible to keep it going.
Therefore, Vamos Organization, which has its headquarters in Dali (CY), is a nonpartisan organization and conducts also cultural projects, since it is active in different non-profit activities, that aim to the cultural, educational and social cultivation of its members.
Among the activities that the Organization carries out there are:
-Organization of football matches and races for charity purpose;
-Art events, whose fundation is devolved to poor people;
-Clothes' and goods' collection for the poors;
-Film projections whose fundation is devolved to PASIKAF association (Association for people affected by cancer);
-Volunteering activities aimed at inclusion and solidarity;
-Gardening, Planting and cleaning activities aimed at environment safeguard;
-English courses both for young people and seniors;
-Cultural exchanges with organizations from European Union;
-Participation in European Projects to improve european citizenship of cypriot people;
-Development of citizenship at local and national level, as many actions have been activated by them for the integration of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot community,
-Inclusion of migrants and newcomers;
-Active ageing through promotion of physical activity;
-Development of volunteering and management of youth projects.
VAMOS can count on skilled volunteers, with experience in language teaching, art and cultural mediation, that will assure a positive and effective support to Projects linked to European Solidarity Corps.
-Cultural festivals (traditional dances, singing from young people and young bands) which all income goes to poor families of Idalion and which aim at the preservation and maintenance of the popular cultural heritage, traditions and customs;
-Artistic exhibitions, workshops of different activities;
-Excursions to nature and discovery of the flora and fauna of Cyprus;
-Seminars for civil defense.
Moreover, the organization aims at the promotion of:
1.Healthy lifestyle and open air activities: it is focused on the wellbeing of the participants with particular reference to active ageing thanks to sport activities;
2.Charity activities;
3.Inclusive atmosphere where the volunteers can cooperate;
4.Improvement of language skills thanks to the promotion of english courses and cultural exchanges;
5.Volunteering, social inclusion, equal opportunities for all its members and equal access for all.
Another important aspect, is that the Organization wants to involve hard-to-reach groups, people with any kind of desease, to make them feel as a part of the community where they live.
The Organization's objective is to take part in European Solidarity Corps to have a deeper experience in promoting inclusion and integration, as well as fighting exclusion and cultural deprivation among the local community, as well as in fostering youth participation, since this kind of projects meet their needs and are in line with its rationale and general aims: through the project the Organization will increase its ability and opportunities in giving to their communities' youth high quality and equal access to international volunteering opportunities.It will be also a good opportunities for volunteers, who can obtain certificates that may improve their curricula.
