STARTKLAR implements measures with regard to the promotion of (early) child multilingualism with the vision of bringing an overall concept of linguistic education into educational practice. Multilingualism is seen as a resource. Hybrid linguistic identities are recognized. The association works directly with kindergartens and schools, municipalities and cities as well as with families and is also active in training teachers. The activities range from play groups for language development for children to the development and implementation of language-sensitive teaching in all school subjects.

STARTKLAR has been working on language promotion with a focus on multilingualism since mid-2016 and is implementing diverse activities in 15 municipalities in Lower Austria and in Vienna. The blog www.sprichundspiel.org was launched, too. STARTKLAR is currently working on a manual that shows educational institutions how language education can be integrated holistically and why this is important. Numerous practical examples serve the low-threshold implementation. Public relations work and numerous proactively initiated discussions with stakeholders on the topic are also important for the change in awareness.
