The Maharishi European Research University (MERU) is an international educational non-profit foundation that offers courses and retreats related to the development of consciousness, including education programmes to become Transcendental Meditation teachers. There are over a hundred locations across the world, with headquarters located in the Netherlands, Vlodrop since 1990. MERU promotes personal growth through transcendental meditation and consciousness, a secular practice based on Veda and the Vedic Tradition - the ancient knowledge from which yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, and many other disciplines come.
The vision of MERU is that consciousness is all there is and the unifying factor of life. Developing one’s own consciousness is the most effective way to promote social inclusion, tolerance, solidarity, and equality in the wider community. Following this philosophy MERU also supports a variety of projects in the areas of e.g., spirituality, peace, education, health, biological agriculture, and architecture.
The MERU headquarter is located in the heart of the Meinweg national park, surrounded by nature.. It consists of offices, public rooms for meditation and courses and shared housing with individual rooms. MERU hosts up to 250 persons from all over the world and from all ages, 18+. MERU promotes solidarity and understanding between nationalities and cultures by bringing people from over 100 countries together.
