Pioneer of Civic Service, Unis-Cité has played a decisive role in the institutionalization and expansion of Civic Service in France. It is approved by the Civic Service Agency as a structure for hosting volunteers. In addition, Unis-Cité puts its twenty-five years of experience at the service of the community by offering advice, operational support, training and intermediation, for associations, local authorities and public establishments interested in welcoming volunteers. Through these actions, Unis-Cité continues to play a major role in the rise of Civic Service in France and is unanimously recognized as a center of expertise in this area.
In addition, Unis-Cité assumes a leading operational role in the implementation of Civic Service missions. With its 80 local offices and 13 regional offices spread across the whole of France and with a total of 430 employees and 500 volunteers, Unis-Cité each year enables more than 8,000 young people from all walks of life, aged 16 to 25 (30 years for young people with disabilities) to get involved in projects useful to the community. They can thus invest themselves in it for 6 to 9 months, full-time, in a team, within the framework of the French Civic Service, while benefiting from a training course, an allowance, an insurance and recognition which then facilitates their integration. This experience provides young people with a basis for acquiring the skills and codes of living together and promotes concrete learning about diversity.
