Sport4Understanding (S4U) was founded in August 2020 by Gøril and Roar Wægger. With a decade of experience in youth sports organizations and having founded Lead4Peace in Nesodden IF Basket we were committed to continuing our meaningful work promoting inclusion and diversity in sports clubs. S4U assists clubs with the work their volunteers may lack time, expertise, or resources for. As a catalyst, S4U provides clubs with skills, resources, and time, aiming for the clubs to independently continue our initiated projects with the mentors we use.
We collaborate with various clubs to foster an active, healthy, and engaged youth environment, focusing on inclusion and diversity. Our goal is to work with selected clubs to address issues beyond sports, such as respect, inclusion, conflict resolution, self-reflection, racism, and xenophobia. Clubs we partner with allocate mentors to this work, ensuring strategic and long-term youth-led leadership.
One ongoing activity is the development of our mentor group, consisting of youths aged 18-29 who have previously participated in exchanges. These mentors are crucial role models during our trips and in their local clubs, where S4U supports their development. All clubs we work with have mentors to ensure that the work initiated and developed through exchanges is maintained and followed up by local youth workers. We work with Youth Exchanges and Youth Workers and now we are eager to join the solidarity corps.
