Descrizione dell'organizzazione

Association "Tatavaka" is a group of professionals, activists and volunteers dedicated to sustainable living, transitioning to a circular economy and protecting the living world. Founded in 2010 by a group of young people from Zlarin striving to improve the island life, it became home to the "Plastic-free Zlarin" initiative in 2019 and the programs we are developing since. Our goal is to support and inspire social changes in small local and school communities for them to become sustainable learning and living places. We are based on Zlarin where we run a community program for transition to a small sustainable island. The decision to become the 1st single-use plastic free island in Croatia was just the beginning. Our work today is dedicated to biodiversity preservation through caring for island ponds and dry stone walls, communal water tank and other resources, supporting street art through music festivals and creating ways to connect people with nature. Our educational program for all generations and segments of society on the human impact on climate and biodiversity and ways to build resilient communities reaches islands, cities and smaller towns across Croatia and the region. Bringing education hand in hand with direct local action is our path to real change. More than 40 schools from different parts of Croatia participated in it, along with numerous institutions, state and local authorities and adult citizens, totalling over 4,500 participants as it continues to grow.
