National Park Sharr mountain is rich of waters, herbs, butterflies. Bears and wolves roam through endemic Balkan forests of Bosnian and Macedonian pines. GAIA has been organizing volunteer exchanges in Sharr since 2015. The EVS project aims at encouraging nature conservation activities, learning from local people, voicing concerns about the future of Sharr. It will establish volunteer biodiversity monitoring. Volunteers will organize clean-up actions, educational workshops, participate in the planing of BREfest 2018 (small nature gathering in Brezovica). Some examples of tasks/activities: - Exploring the mountain, documenting biodiversity and landscapes: - Searching for tracks and traces of animal life - Camera traps setting and checking - Plants research - Support activities of the National park - Participating in the creation of future volunteer programs in Sharr and Kosovo. !More info about the project and how to apply here: https://goo.gl/zBw71C

Volunteers will be living in a village in Strpce municipality in the foot of Sharr mountain in a shared house with simple conditions. Volunteers will be cooking together for themselves. Food will be vegan/vegetarian, seasonal and as local as possible. There is regular public transport from Štrpce/Shtërpcë or Brezovica village to Ferizaj/Uroševac (4 times a day) and to Prizren (3-4 times a day). Other villages in the region are 2-3 kilometres away and volunteers need to walk or ride a bike There is no public transport to Brezovica ski resort, however, you can hike to through the forest.

We can imagine the interested volunteers are - mountain, nature lovers; people who like to be outside - the project might be engaging for students in natural sciences (biology, forestry, veterinary medicine etc.) - previous experience with activities, related to nature protection is welcome but not obligatory - some skills in photography and video could contribute to documenting the activities - initiative, independent, flexible, ability to work in a team, communicative, open for learning new things, ready to step outside of the comfort zone - willingness to learn local language
