Volunteer at Mela music and cultural festival - 3 nights of free accommodation and food

Join us at the Mela festival in Oslo in August, and experience music, food and culture from all over the world! Volunteer for as long as you like with other young travelers and locals, and sleep for free at Haraldsheim hostel for three nights. Food is also covered. 

The Mela festival is a huge celebration of cultural diversity in Norway and works to strengthen the participation and influence of artists with migration background in Norwegian cultural life. Mela seeks to create an urban, cross-genre music scene and meeting point to showcase and celebrate art and cultural expressions that has come to Norway through immigration. Starting in 2001, it has since become the largest of its kind in all of Europe!

In addition to inviting well-known international names, the Mela festival creates a space for young up-and-coming local musicians <3 All through the festival, delicious food from all corners of the world will also be served. The festival space is in the heart of Oslo, right at the town hall square.

As a volunteer at Mela, you have a chance to work in the background and help create the magical festival feeling that we all love so much. Tasks may be everything from welcoming performers backstage, distributing festival programmes, serving food, taking cool pictures of the crowds for social media, or playing with children at the festival’s family area. All the while you get to meet a whole lot of new people, make friends from all over the world, listen to fantastic music and try a lot of new food.

The festival starts on Friday 18.08 and ends on Sunday 20.08, and you can volunteer for as many hours as you want. The festival is free and you are of course welcome to stay for the entire event, however many hours you choose to volunteer. DiscoverEU travelers will get free accommodation at a youth hostel in Oslo from Thursday 17.08 until Sunday 20.08.

If you come to Oslo Thursday 17.08, you are invited to a free welcoming dinner Thursday to meet up with the other travelers and local youth. It will take place in the city center of Oslo. We are so excited to see you all here!!
