The European Space Agency offers a variety of training opportunities for young nationals from ESA Member and Cooperating States. Find out which one is best suited for you!
The programme offers a one-year paid training opportunity, including a travel allowance and health coverage, to work in an exciting international and multicultural environment. With the YGT, you will be able to gain valuable experience in the development and operation of space missions. As a Graduate Trainee, you’ll take on responsibility supporting a project, and benefit from the expertise of an ESA mentor.
Every year new training vacancies are advertised on the Agency’s website in mid-November, but additional posts are published throughout the year. So keep your eyes open!
To be eligible, you must be a recent graduate, or in your final year, of your degree in a technical or scientific discipline. You also have to be a citizen of one of the ESA’s Member States or from one of the European Cooperating States.
To apply, fill in the online application form attached to each vacancy, including your CV and a cover letter. Keep in mind that you can only send one online application form!
Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Programme
If you are a young scientist or engineer, the ESA gives you the possibility of carrying out a two-year research fellowship in a variety of disciplines related to space science, space applications and technology.
To apply you must have recently earned your doctorate in a field closely connected to space activities and be a national of one of ESA's Member or Cooperating States.
You can submit your application at any time during the year, but the evaluation process usually starts in October.
Send your application form along with your CV, a list of publications, references, your doctorate certificate and a detailed description of your research project to temp.htr@esa.int.
If you are still studying, the ESA offers you internships from 3 to 6 months as part of your degree course. These non-paid traineeships are available for technical as well as non‑technical areas.
To apply, you should be nearing the completion of your Bachelors degree, or in the first half of your Masters course in mathematics, engineering, physics, science and information technology, law, finance, etc.
You must complete the online application form and e‑mail it to any of ESA's main establishments. You should include your CV and a covering letter explaining why you would like to work at ESA.
