Opis
The volunteer works as an volunteer in Lyhty’s assisted housing unit C of the non-profit NGO “Lyhty ry”. Lyhty provides housing, education and work activity services for adults with learning disabilities. Lyhty is located in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Unit C is located in area called Konala. In housing units, a volunteer's job description includes to do homework together with a intellectual disabled person or to guide a person with intellectual disability to do their own homework. The housing units appreciate the volunteer's creativity, openness and genuine presence. For example, a volunteer can socialize with a resident, go out for coffee with other caregivers and residents, organize art shows or cook, play music, or organize activities such as a sports or dance,guided exercise, cooking, cleaning, listening to music, crafts, outdoor activities, excursions, etc. In Lyhty we have 10 volunteers working at the same time in different housing units and workshops.
Nastanitev, prehrana in prevoz
The volunteer will receive every month money for food and gets lunch and dinner from Lyhty from monday till friday. Volunteer will have a room in a shared accommodation with other young volunteers.The area is closed to the workplace.The accommodation will be fully equipped and electricity, water, gas will be covered by the hosting organization. The volunteer works 35 hours on 5 days per week from monday till friday. There is an entitlement to holidays for 2 days per month, altogether holidays days that can be taken after consulting with the Lyhty team. Volunteer gets the buss card from Lyhty
Usposabljanje med dejavnostjo
The volunteers will have a mentor working with him/her trough the year. Volunteers will meet other volunteers every month in group meetings with the project coordinator. Volunteers have private meetings also regularly with the project coordinator. The volunteer needs to do the hygienia test in the beginning of the year. We also give information about first aid. Profil udeleženca
Good social skills and motivation to work with people with special needs are important. The work can be dynamic at times and requires such mentality. It is important to have the motivation to learn Finnish language. The participants have learned e.g. the following things. Responsibility, guidance, the field of developmental disability, equality, organization, organization of activities, language skills, cultural knowledge, dignity, resilience to pressure, flexibility, social and health care, cooking, cleaning and housekeeping, teamwork, inequality.
