Beskrivning

Lyhty ry is a non-profit association founded in 1993. Lyhty ry's ethical goal is to promote the well-being of developmentally disabled individuals, their families, and the whole society. Outdoor workshop Lato is located in area called Konala and Pitäjänmäki. Workshop Lato provides adults with intellectual disabilities an environment that creates fertile ground for learning through concrete work. Seven small groups work in many different ways. In gardens and forests in seasonal tasks. The work includes informational learning, courses, and visits to companies and organizations in the industry. Lato is participating in the organization of events and also providing opportunities for ecological habits. The work is purposeful and each and every employee finds his or her own strengths. The role of the volunteer is to act as a mentor for the intellectual disabled with the help, support and with other workers.

Logi, mat och transporter

Volunteer is accommodated in one of Lyhty’s housing buildings and will be sharing a house with other volunteers. Meals and transport are arranged through Lyhty. Volunteer will get 150euros to take Finnish language course.

Utbildning under verksamheten

Welcome to work at Lato Outdoor Workshop! The role of the volunteer is to act as a mentor for the intellectual disabled with the help, support and with other workers. Working hours on weekdays usually between 9-16. The volunteers will have a mentor working with him/her trough the year. Volunteers have group meetings with the volunteer coordinator and individual meetings. We have 10 volunteers working for one year. Volunteers will take part to on arrival camp and mid term camp. Deltagarens profil

Good social skills and motivation to work with people with special needs are important. The work can be dynamic at times and requires such mentality. It is important to have the motivation to learn Finnish language.
