Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen (VwV) is a platform of Belgian NGOs and volunteer groups defending the rights of asylum seekers and refugees in Belgium. We are currently seeking someone to join our Refugee Walk team as an Event and Outreach Officer. The Refugee Walk (29/09) aims to raise awareness, build solidarity for people on the move and raises funds for our organization. In the first 3 months, the volunteer will help with the general organization, logistics during the event itself, outreach work, and coordination of the volunteers. After the event, you will start preparing the edition of 2025. The main focus points will be: - outreach & networking (building partnerships, include stakeholders in the event, raising publicity for the event, ...); - volunteer coordination (welcoming volunteers, and making the volunteer planning of the event); - event coordination (assist in making sure the event runs smoothly and building the edition of '25). Selections will take place in April.
Nastanitev, prehrana in prevoz
The volunteer will receive a monthly payment (€973,33) for organisational support, covering accommodation and food expenses, and a monthly amount of €152,08 for individual expenses. The volunteer can choose their own accommodation; many choose to stay in Brussels. Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen will support the volunteer in finding appropriate accommodation by providing relevant sources (websites, social media groups…) where accommodation is published. Home-to-office travel will be paid; the office is situated just a 5-minute subway ride away from the historical centre of Brussels.
Usposabljanje med dejavnostjo
Intercultural training will be part of the training organised by JINT (the national agency in Belgium). These trainings aim to create intercultural encounters, which are essential in the project, and they will remain a subject in feedback sessions and evaluations. Internal training is being periodically set up to keep staff and volunteers steady on track with these regulations. Every new staff member and volunteer receives an introduction training and folder with essential information on the organization (mission, vision, workplace rules...).
Profil udeleženca
We are looking for someone with: - Strong commitment to human rights, refugee issues, and social justice. - Previous experience in community outreach, networking, or event coordination - Interpersonal and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders effectively. - Ability to work independently, take initiative, and being flexible. - Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required. Knowledge of Dutch is a plus. - Must be an eligible candidate for the European Solidarity Corps program. More info on the Refugee Walk itself, can be found here: www.refugeewalk.be.
