Renovating homes to empower people and strengthen their social life #Bordeaux

ASSOCIATION NATIONALE COMPAGNONS BATISSEURS

Bordeaux, An Fhrainc

Cur síos

Our organisation aims at improving the living conditions of low economic resources residents, empower them and strengthen their social life through: - renovation work in private homes, in a spirit of non-formal education (the inhabitants, professional technicians and volunteers do the works, share and learn together) – painting, changing wallpapers, redo the floors, electricity, plumbery, setting up shelves, adapting the house to aging or disabled people, etc. - improving the living conditions with workshops, information and door to door raising awareness about, how to save energy, improve the quality of the air or heating in the house/flat etc. - developing local mutual aid networks with neighbourhood workshops, loan of tools, group activities on renovation, making objects or furniture etc. In each city, we host local and international volunteers. They are fully integrated to our professional teams and work together with the salaries on a daily basis.

Depending on the city, the volunteers are hosted in a house/apartment or a room in an international residence, with shared leaving areas with other young volunteers. Every ESC volunteer receives a monthly allowance of 600 euros for food expenses and pocket money. Local transport is provided. For international trips, the volunteers receive an amount (defined by the European Commission) that varies according to the distance between the hosting place in France and the living place in the country of origin.

Oiliúint le linn na gníomhaíochta

On a daily basis, the volunteers are always supported by professional technicians, to learn and experience tecnical skills. They also have a regional referent to deal with all the other aspects of the volunteer’s life, and reflect on the overall experience. Our national movement organises volunteers’ gatherings 3 times a year, in addition to the Erasmus+ National agency arrival and mid-term seminars. We also hold some annual workcamps in June, with local and international volunteers from all around our movement in France.

The project is open to anyone looking forward to learning about manual work and social support. We do not expect volunteers to have previous experience. What we do expect from our volunteers is: - to have a good understanding of our approach ; - to be motivated to take part in manual work activities ; - to be able to interact with people from different backgrounds ; - basic to intermediate English appreciated and of course a strong motivation to learn French ! (ours teams do not always master English) We do examine and answer all applications, so please send us a personalised motivation statement :) More information about us: https://www.instagram.com/compagnonsbatisseursvolontaire/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2OuHev3xos https://www.compagnonsbatisseurs.eu/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iq1R3l8_zsU
