Opis
You will be one of 3 long-term volunteers we will be hosting this year, and your main area of focus will be at our local elementary schools, Gradec and Kresnice. The schools are in Litija and Kresnice for pupils aged 6-15 years old, with an experienced team of teachers who have been hosting international volunteers since 2009. They have found that international experiences inspire their pupils to be more active in learning, and so as a volunteer, you'll be a key part of the process of bringing possibility home. You will have the chance to help out in language/STEM classes, after-school sports, garden and forest pedagogical activities. You can also help with some activities at our organisation such as social media, design, the community garden, supporting local ecological initiatives, and you can create your own activities such as organizing intercultural events for local youth and making videos/podcasts about local events. Nastanitev, prehrana in prevoz
We will provide you with accommodation in an apartment with a kitchen, which you will share with two other volunteers. Two volunteers will share one larger room and one will be alone in a smaller room. We will provide you with an allowance for food so that you can choose what to use in preparing your own meals. The accommodation is within cycling distance to the school and our office, where you will work and we will provide a bicycle. There is a train station in Litija which connects to the 3 largest cities in Slovenia and many other locations.
Usposabljanje med dejavnostjo
During your time with us, you will also have the opportunity to participate in training courses on youth work and experiential learning. You will also gain knowledge on topics related to sustainable living, such as permaculture gardening, as well as growing and using medicinal herbs. You will get practical experience in working with children, also using forest pedagogy. The Online Linguistic Support of ESC will get you started with Slovenian and many other languages and we can also provide additional support like Slovene or English language classes if you need them.
Profil udeleženca
As our volunteer you should have: a good grasp of English, enough to be able to hold a conversation; some experience of working with children (whether you worked formally with kids before or just come from a big family); enthusiasm for the project, as we want a volunteer who really wants to carry out the project and to be here with us!; an interest in nature and sustainability; independence and interests of your own - to make the most of this experience, it's good to know what you want to take from it. If you don't know concretely yet, having a feeling for your own identity and a desire to do for yourself is a great start.
