KFUM SPEJDERNE I DENMARK
Kolding, Danmark
Beskrivelse
Houens Odde Scout Centre is a conference center, owned by the YMCA scouts in Denmark, and is run by a staff mixed of permanent employees and Danish and foreign volunteers. The center also has a staff off around 120 Danish voluntary scouts from all scout organizations in Denmark. The staff, called Houmen, are taking care of the scout events that take place at the center during the year. The guests at the center are companies, schools, municipality authorities, NGOs, scouts from Denmark and outside Denmark. The jobs are mainly practical outdoor jobs concentrated on running the center. But you are also a teambuilding activity instructor, and you help in the canteen kitchen. The jobs are not more practical than everybody can do it. There is also time for participating in scout summer camp as a staff member, and for a personal project period with focus on the topics: Inclusion/diversity and green policies.
Logi, mad og transport
The volunteers share an apartment at the center. There are rooms for 6 volunteers. Each volunteer has their own room, and shares the kitchen, living room, washing machine etc. The ESC volunteers will be living together with 2 Danish volunteers, and 1 non-European volunteer. It is not necessary to be a scout to volunteer at the center. The center pays for the apartment and for the food. The volunteers have 2 cars they can use for work and in their free time. It is also possible to take buses, but the center is situated on the countryside, so the buses do not go that often.
Oplæring under aktiviteten
The volunteers will receive personal training in all the tasks at the center. The center will offer “Volunteer Upstart Sessions” during the first month of the stay. In the middle of the project time, the center also holds 5-week mid sessions. The volunteers will also participate in on-arrival and mid-term training organized by the National Agency. The center is situated on a beautiful wooden peninsula, and the volunteers are welcome to go sailing on the canoes/kayaks or use other of the center’s activities in their free time.
Deltagerens profil
As a volunteer you need to be between 18 and 26 years old. You do not have to be a scout, but liking the outdoor life. The centre is placed at the countryside, so you need to like to live on the country, close to water and forest. Many of the jobs are practical jobs, but you do not have to practical, but to be interested in learning new skills. Then we will learn you what you need. It is a advange to have a driver's licence, since the centre is big and you often need to drive a car or a tractor. The volunteers live in an apartment, and can be from many different countries, cultures and backgrounds. You must like the international atmosphere and speak English, being social and curious about your apartment-mates.
