Working with young people at Fjället Youth Centre

Kooperativet Fjället

Angered, Gothenburg, An tSualainn

Cur síos

Kooperativet Fjället is an NGO located in Rannebergen, Gothenburg, Sweden, offering leisure activities for young people aged 10–20. Our youth work is based on participation and influence, giving young people a real voice in shaping the activities and environment at the youth centre. At the youth centre, we host two European Solidarity Corps (ESC) volunteers who work together and actively contribute to the daily activities. Volunteers also have the opportunity to develop their own projects and initiatives in collaboration with the young people. These can include sports, cultural activities, crafts, theatre, music, or other creative ideas depending on the volunteers’ interests and skills. Volunteers are always supported by experienced youth workers, who guide them in planning activities, developing their ideas, and help them feel confident in their role at the youth centre.

Living arrangements: Two volunteers will share an apartment about 25 minutes from the youth centre by bus. Each has a private bedroom, while kitchen, bathroom, and living room are shared. Volunteers should be comfortable with shared living and cooperating in daily responsibilities. Financial support: Each volunteer receives a monthly allowance of about 4,500 SEK for food and pocket money. They are also provided with a public transport card for the Gothenburg area, a SIM card for communication, and coverage of accommodation, international travel, insurance, and visa costs through the ESC.

The volunteers attend the On-arrival training and Mid-term training, which are held in Stockholm by the Swedish National Agency. We encourage the volunteers to stay over the weekend in Stockholm at their own cost in conjunction with these training sessions. The volunteers will receive Swedish language classes which are part of the work hours. The volunteers are also invited to various training opportunities within the KEKS network when such opportunities are given. We always encourage and promote contact and networking with volunteers in Sweden.
