Would you like to be part of a project that promotes gender equality and defends women’s rights? As part of the “PUENTES: Programme for Unity and Equity in the Regions with a Focus on Solidarity” project, you will work with MPDL Guatemala to support its various projects aimed at preventing gender-based violence and protecting women human rights defenders. You will also be part of Movimiento por la Paz, a pacifist, feminist and anti-racist organisation with over 40 years’ experience fighting for a fairer world. The volunteer will work 30 to 38 hours per week, tailored to the organisation’s needs, and will receive ongoing support and training. The main activities will take place in Quetzaltenango, with possible travel to nearby communities where projects are being implemented.

Accommodation, visa, insurance and flight costs are covered by the project. Accommodation will be in a safe area of Quetzaltenango, with easy access to amenities such as supermarkets, restaurants, hospitals and public transport. This accommodation will include all basic utilities (electricity, water, gas, internet) and single rooms. In addition, volunteers will receive a daily allowance to cover personal expenses, including food and local transport. Travel costs from your place of residence to the destination country will be covered by MPDL. Medical insurance (Henner) will be arranged by MPDL

You will attend a pre-deployment training course on MPDL, humanitarian aid, security, mentoring and practical matters (visas, insurance, etc.). Upon arrival at your destination, you will receive training on the host organisation, your tasks and your role. You will also have the opportunity to take part in discussion groups with other volunteers and training sessions to develop cross-cutting skills such as intercultural awareness. During your placement, we encourage you to take advantage of EU training programmes such as OLS, GOT and SALTO.

We are looking for someone who is motivated to contribute to social change and gender equality, committed to our organisation’s pacifist, feminist and anti-racist values, and willing to join the MPDL Guatemala team for 10 months. If you are interested in gender-sensitive project management, you will be supported by a mentor throughout your placement. Eligibility: Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months. *If you have faced barriers in accessing services, healthcare, employment or education, or if you live in outlying or remote areas, we particularly encourage you to apply.
