Fundación Loyola- Servicio Jesuita a Migrantes (SJM Argentina), it supports migrants and refugees through an approach based on hospitality, protection and the restoration of rights based in Argentina. 

The volunteer will join and accompany productive and organizational initiatives of migrant women's groups supported by SJM (the Textile Entrepreneurship initiative and the Haitian-Dominican Women's Network). They will support actions focused on organizational strengthening, community participation, and the socioeconomic inclusion of migrants and refugees. Key activities will include participating in training sessions, community gatherings, social economy initiatives, and information systematization tasks.

The time commitment will be between 30 and 38 hours per week, excluding commuting time. Activities will take place primarily in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, at the SJM offices, as well as in schools, social organizations, and community spaces.

The volunteer will always act in a supportive capacity to the team. Throughout their placement, the volunteer will receive ongoing guidance and supervision from the Buenos Aires Office Coordination team and the professional in charge of the Education Department

The volunteer will be based in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina and one of the largest and most dynamic cities in Latin America. Buenos Aires is characterized by its cultural diversity, bringing together people from different nationalities and backgrounds. The city offers a wide range of academic, cultural, and recreational opportunities, making it a vibrant hub with a rich social and artistic life. Its public spaces are a constant stage for artistic expression, community engagement, and social mobilization, providing an enriching environment for learning and intercultural exchange.

The volunteer will carry out their activities in collaboration with the Jesuit Refugee Service (Servicio Jesuita a Migrantes – SJM). Accommodation will be arranged and fully covered by the hosting organization, including a private room, internet access, and basic utilities. The accommodation will be located within a reasonable distance from the SJM office and essential services such as supermarkets, pharmacies, health facilities, and public transportation.

Buenos Aires has an extensive and reliable public transportation network, including buses, the Subte (metro), and trains, providing easy access to the project locations and the rest of the city.

The volunteer will receive comprehensive pre-departure training from Alboan, the sending organisation, in Europe before the start of the placement. Upon arrival in Argentina, they will participate in an induction programme introducing Servicio Jesuita a Migrantes (SJM) Argentina’s mission, values, working methodologies, and the national context of migration, forced displacement, and refugee protection.

Throughout the placement, the volunteer will work closely with the SJM Argentina team, gaining hands-on experience in supporting the social inclusion and integration of migrants and refugees through community-based activities, accompaniment, advocacy, and intercultural initiatives. They will participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with professionals and volunteers in the planning and implementation of activities. This practical learning process will enable the volunteer to strengthen their intercultural, communication, and teamwork skills while gaining a deeper understanding of human mobility, human rights, and social justice from a hospitality perspective.

Educational background or studies in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Sociology, or other related disciplines linked to the support and integration of migrants and refugees will also be considered an asset. The participant must demonstrate social sensitivity, strong listening skills, and a willingness to work in multicultural settings, along with the ability to work in a team, adapt to institutional dynamics, and respect the host organization's procedures.

We are looking for someone with a solid command of Spanish, both spoken and written, with a minimum level of B1

The participant must demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team, interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, take the initiative, show creativity and be willing to take part in educational, recreational and community activities.

Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
