Tegevuse kirjeldus

“Diakonia Agapis" is a Chronically Diseases Infirmary belonging to the Holy Metropolis of Thiva and Levadia and offers social services to persons seeking personal, psychological, medical, recreational and any other form of support. The inmates live inside the infirmary and the personnel takes care of them in accordance to medical and social department meeting the individual needs of each inmate. The Infirmary is located in Thiva city center in a multi-story building. The social services provided by trained and specialized personnel for this work. Daily schedule involve personal care and keeping company to inmates, implementation of creative activities, and collaboration with other institution to promote voluntarism. We expect that young volunteers will express their willingness to participate in voluntary actions and give joy and happiness to inmates and gain personal experiences and develop life skills.

Majutus, toitlustus, transport

Volunteers’ accommodation will be in a rented flat with single bedrooms and shared bathroom & toilet, kitchen and sitting room. Volunteers are responsible for keeping the room and house, along with the other volunteers, clean and to take care of the equipment inside the house (electrical equipment, TV, beds, tables, chairs, among others). In case of damage due to willful negligence they may be asked to pay the repairing costs. Lunch and dinner will be prepared by professional cooks and provided on a daily No transportation is needed since the flat in 50 meter away from the Infirmary.

Koolitused tegevuse ajal

An introduction practical training will be realized at the beginning of EVS from the supervisors of the nursing department and from the social work department. The training will include practices fro volunteers to follow and actions to avoid and a special emphases will be given to safety of volunteers and inmates. Social worker will provide examples of creative activities and give the opportunity to implement under monitoring. Communication skills will be improved among volunteers and personnel and Greek language lessons will be given for helping them to integrate into local society.

Osaleja profiil

– 18-30 years old – willing to follow the daily program – capable to create activities with simple materials by using their hands – skilled to provide physical education activities – open minded, in basics self-independent, responsible and with a strong motivation for international youth work and intercultural communication with elderly persons – capable to help in preparing international youth exchanges and activities; – motivated to learn basic Greek phrases in a short time; – playing an musical instrument which will be mostly appreciated; – able to communicate in english.
