Beskrivning av organisationen

Haabersti Youth Centre (suborganisation of Haabersti Leisure Centre) is meant for the youngsters from 7-26 years. Haabersti Youth Centre has been open for 17 years and in this time, it has become a community centre which offers a safe enivronment for the youth for purposeful activities during their free time. Haabersti Youth Centre has average of 40 visitors per day and it is open from Monday to Friday from 13.00 to 19.00. It is a municipal organisation that works at the local level. The aim of the organisation is to coordinate and organize leisure activities, health prevention, culture-and sport activities, hobby clubs and youth work. The tasks of the organisation includes:

1) Organising youth work with the local district youngsters.
2) Prevention of drug abuse, alcohol abuse and crime.
3) Organising activities that support a healthy lifestyle.
4) Coordinating hobby clubs for the youth.
5) Advertising and providing information related to the events and activities that the organisation offers.
6) Managing projects and providing possibilities for volunteers.

Haabersti Youth Centre is the main coordinator of youth work in Haabersti district offering 5 free hobby clubs in a week: cooking class, art class, crafts class, quiz class and as a quite new possibility it now offers a multimedia service called "Veebimull" - youth centre has 3 computers, graphic boards for digital painting, a new camera and a tripod. The computers also have licenses for different photo and video editing programs. Youngsters can get help with their studies, play board games, table football, table tennis, pool and xbox. Youngsters also have the possibility to organize different kind of events and make their ideas come to life. In addition Haabersti Youth Centre organizes city camps during school breaks (7 times a year). Camps last for 5 days and each camp has up to 40 youngsters from 7-12 years old. It also keeps different traditions alive with events. Haabersti Youth Centre uses open youth work method providing different possibilities for the youth taking into consideration their actual needs and wishes. Youth centre supports personal initiative and gives youngsters the possibility of teaching others.
