Beskrivelse af organisationen

The YMCA and YWCA in Denmark is a value-based youth organisation founded in 1878 based on Christian values. A central part of our vision is to meet the needs of children and young people, and strengthen their courage to live and take action as active participants in the areas of civil society, democratic life and faith. The organisation is identified by 3 activity profiles, which are 1) Festivals and Camps 2) Local Activity Spaces and 3) Global Communities. In this framework we carry out different activities such as leadership training, volunteer opportunities and by offering opportunities for intercultural meetings between young people.

The global dimension is crucial to our identity as the YMCA and YWCA in Denmark is a member of 2 global youth organisations, the World Alliance of YMCA and the World Alliance of YWCA, which are the 2 biggest youth organisations in the world. We hereby face obvious opportunities to grow partnerships with other national youth organizations through our active European network hereby supporting the opportunity of more young people to gain intercultural awareness, mobility and skills for participating in civil society and democratic life.
The national movement of the YMCA and YWCA in Denmark consists of approximately 112 local YMCA and YWCA branches. Every 2nd year the members elect an Executive Committee for the political leadership of the organisation.
