St. Maximilian Kolbe House of Meetings and Reconciliation in Gdansk (DMK) was founded in 1992. Since this time DMK supports, organizes and promotes international exchange of young people, and therefore reconciliation, integration and rapprochement between people. The projects conducted by DMK are adressed to young people from Eastern and Western Europe. Through the international projects DMK allows their participants to observe the contemporary world and gain knowledge about its culture, politics and economy. During the international projects we hold a number of activities, including language courses, trainings and seminars for multipliers and teachers in international youth exchange, historical and art workshops in theatre, film, photography. Projects organized for Russia, Belarus and Ukraine are a part of exchange of good practices in fields of democracy and civil society development. DMK is a host organisation for volunteering - so far dozens of volunteers form Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus have spent their internship in DMK, promoting the ideas of reconciliation and integration between Eastern and Western countries, as well as the opportunity of volunteering in a foreign country as a mean to gain knowledge and experience. DMK promotes the idea of volunteering on local and international level. Volunteers work every day with experienced team of project coordinators. Together with a program team they can implement their ideas in the preparation of international youth exchange programs for young people. This allows them to acquire new practical skills in group work, leadership and communication, as well as broaden their knowledge of multicultural Europe, understanding its social and cultural processes.
