Beskrivning av organisationen

Diocesan Charity Brno (DCHB) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization providing social and health services in the territory of the South Moravian Region and partly in the Vysočina Region. The philosophy of the organisation is based on Christian principles - to help our neighbour regardless of nationality, religion or political affiliation. Diocesan Charity Brno is active in the provision of social and health services, humanitarian aid and in the promotion of human rights. The charity in its original meaning was re-established in February 1992 by the Bishop of Brno, Mons. Vojtěch Cikrle.

On the territory of the Statutory City of Brno, Services Brno operates as one of ten organisational units of the DCHB. Other organizational units (called Regional Charities) operate in the regions of the South Moravian Region (Blansko, Břeclav, Hodonín, Rajhrad, Tišnov, Znojmo) and the Vysočina Region (Jihlava, Třebíč, Žďár n. Sázavou). DCHB is a functional system of services for the needy and a safety net for people in need in its places of operation. Services are provided to a wide range of target groups: the elderly, people with disabilities, people in difficult life situations, socially excluded people, at-risk and unorganised children and youth, members of national and ethnic minorities, people with acute, chronic or incurable diseases, foreigners, the unemployed and people with substance abuse. In these areas, the DCHB develops activities on both a professional and voluntary level, setting up individual facilities and assistance centres. It enables, organises and supports the acquisition of the necessary qualifications, including continuing and lifelong education, professional development and other educational activities for workers, clients and service users, as well as the professional public.
In 2016, DCHB received the title of Nonprofit of the Year in the Large Nonprofit category from the NROS Foundation. In February 2017, the organization celebrated its 25th anniversary of reopening. In 25 years, DCHB has grown to 1,400 employees helping more than 58,000 people in need. Over 1,100 volunteers also participate in DCHB's efforts, and up to 16,000 volunteers assist the Charity in its fundraising efforts. DCHB is an organizer or participant in the Pie for Hospice, Food Drive, Night Out, the Wish Granting Tree, the Three Kings Concert, fundraisers and outreach events.

The organization provides 108 registered social services, as well as health services (home hospice care, home health care). We operate mainly in the field, thanks to which we are able to catch a person with possible difficulties more quickly and work with a client who has multiple so-called social diagnoses. We also implement humanitarian aid - for example, in the spring and summer of 2020 we ran a tent city in Brno for homeless people so that they would not have to face a pandemic on the street, and in the summer of 2021 we helped to arrange and mediate volunteer help and funding for people in the Hodonín and Breclav regions, which were hit by a devastating tornado. Teams of field social workers are still working in the affected areas to provide assistance and psychosocial support to people. Last but not least, it is worth mentioning the humanitarian projects abroad - during its existence, DCHB has helped, for example, in Kosovo, Romania, Ukraine, Zimbabwe, Moldova, Tanzania and refugees on the Balkan route.
