Opis organizacije

The Municipality of Molfetta (Comune di Molfetta) is the local public body, governing the city of Molfetta, a large community around 25 km Northern of Bari (the Capital of Apulia Region). This is a community of around 60.000 inhabitants located right on the seaside of the South Italian Adriatic coast.
The city is well known as the "City of Peace", as written on the road panel at the entrance, and municipality aims at:
- improving the inhabitants quality of life providing better environmental, cultural, natural, touristic resources and conditions;
- fostering full employment of workers protecting their rights according their attitudes and skills;
- coping with the phenomenon of emigration by need, to secure connections with the Molfetta communities abroad and to ensure the best conditions for those who, foreign citizens, intend to integrate into the city;
- promoting positive conditions and actions to foster gender equality;
- ensuring social value to public and private business initiatives, promoting cooperation among partners;
- taking care of protection policies addressed to users with fewer opportunities;
- implementing an integrated system of social security and health care, involving no-profit organization, associations, voluntary organizations. Thus promoting the creation of decentralized entities for the support of families, elders, kids, disabled, minors at risk and addicted people;
- ensuring the right to study and fighting early school leaving;
- protecting cultural heritage and traditions of the community;
- taking care and exploiting the molfetta dialect;
- promoting and support cultural, touristic and sport initiatives;
- supporting youth policies, association and services for youth;
- promoting action for peace and international solidariety, mainly targeting the Mediterranean basin.

The Municipality is divided in different sectors in charge of several tasks:
- Sector "General Affairs and Innovation, Attorney's Office and Municipal Police Office", that mainly deal with Human Resources, Citizens Services, Cultural Policies and Tourism, Municipal Police and Civil Protection;
- Sector "Economic-Finance prgramme and finance" dealing with budgeting, general accounting, audit, local taxation and heritage;
- Sector "Territory" in charge of urban planning, public building, demanium, green environment planning, healthy cities, manufacturing activities, trade, fishing and agriculture;
- Sector "Public Work" in charge of execution of public works and Infrastructures, markets, urban design, public Space and Areas, Contracts, Maintenance of Public School Buildings, Sports Facilities, Networks and Infrastructures, Roads and green.
- Sector "Welfare" in charge of housing policies, immigration services, Sports, Social Educational Area (Minors, Schools, and Meal Service) Health Care Area, Senior Citizens and Disabled People and Social Security Area.

The municipality has 4 different sites where the volunteers can have activities: the city hall in the historical area of Molfetta (P.zza Municipio); the area of the former city hospital, where nowadays there is a kindergarten still very active (via Carnicella); the new site where there is the UPAL, the Agenda XXI forum, the centre for the microcredit, sport department; the social care department (via Cifariello).
The main activities of the municipality are:
- UPAL "Ufficio per la Ricerca Attiva del Lavoro", one of the most important office for youngsters and young adult to find job opportunities
- The Environment department in cooperation with the schools runs regularly non-formal project connected to environment protection, including an urban garden "Orto urbano".
- IAT, the tourist information office is provinding information regarding attraction, special events, museums and exhibitions in the city
- "Ostello dell'Accoglienza" is a recover where immigrants can have rest during the traditional feast in September
- The public library, where students can go for studying and consult books.
