The Association of Persons with Disabilities of Karlovac County (hereinafter: the Association) is a non-governmental, nonprofit organization that advocates and promotes the well-being of persons with disabilities and children with disabilities. The goals of the Association are to: promote and protect the common health, social, humanitarian and similar goals of children with disabilities and persons with disabilities; promote the realization of independent living as a model for living in the community; promote the use of modern technologies; encourage the suppression of discrimination on the basis of disability; to sensitize the public and indicate the needs and potentials of the Association members; create good cooperation and partnerships with state, regional and local government and other community institutions. The Association actively promotes equal opportunities and inclusive access for the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in community life on an equal basis with all citizens. The activities of the Association are based on regular provision of social services and organization of activities, and include: - information and counseling service in the field of disability; - home help service; - personal assistance service; - transportation service with custom van; - Creative and Culinary Workshops; - printing workshops on sublimation presses; - occupational activities for the purpose of developing and maintaining working habits and skills for higher employment of persons with disabilities; - recreational sports through bowling training for the most severe types of disabilities - involvement of volunteers. Occasional activities that the Association conducts are educational content, campaigns and marking commemorative dates. Target groups with respect to membership and/or beneficiaries to which the Association is directed are persons with disabilities of all ages in the Karlovac County. According to the database, the Association has 373 members with various types of disabilities and physical impairments. The proportion of men and women is equal, some of them belonging to national minorities. A common feature is that they need the help of another person in their day-to-day activities, as well as the need for mobility, information and engaging in activities aimed at raising the quality of life. Given that persons with disabilities belong to a specific group, a major focus of action is on lobbying and advocacy in all social spheres through the promotion of disability as a human right. In addition to encouraging the employment of people with disabilities in the community, the Association also employs people with disabilities. Good cooperation with numerous institutions was achieved through the implementation of projects/programs and the Association became a desirable sectoral and cross-sectoral partner. Good cooperation has been established with the County of Karlovac and other local communities in the County to address the issues and improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities. Representatives of the Association participate in working groups and commissions to co-create and adopt strategic documents, carry out educational programs and organize joint activities. The great result of the Association was achieved by withdrawing funds from the EU through one IPA and four projects funded by the European Social Fund, which confirms the education and capacity of the Association. This year, for the first time as a partner, the Association participates in the implementation of the Erasmus + program. The day-to-day work of the Association includes performing a number of administrative tasks in all segments of coordination, establishing numerous contacts, submitting reports, etc., and this takes place in the office of the Association in Karlovac. Provision of information and advisory support also takes place in the equipped space in Plaski. The Association is an active participant in the process of removing architectural barriers in the County of Karlovac and encouraging actions related to the renovation and construction of accessible outdoor and indoor environments. Strategic development planning is a key element in the successful work of the Association. The Strategic Plan for the period 2017 - 2021 represents the development of organizational components at the management and operational levels with the aim of establishing clear guidelines for the further development of the Association. The objectives of the Strategic Plan relate to: Continuous development of social services and support to persons with disabilities; Development of social entrepreneurship; Strengthening the capacity of associations/institutions/organizations to develop inclusive practices; Strengthening the capacity of the Association, which covers the activity of promoting volunteerism in the Association. In accordance with the Strategic Plan, Operational Plans are implemented on an annual basis.
