Hadri // Algeria

Hadri is a Master student of English in Algeria, he took part in the Newcomers and Nationalism Interactive Open Online Course.

Hadri discovered Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange last spring through University, his teacher encouraged him to follow the Newcomers and Nationalism Interactive Open Online Course.

The activity is an intercultural Virtual Exchange experience aimed at exploring the sense social belonging from the perspective of newcomers in Europe, and those that are moving towards a more nationalistic and anti-European sentiment. Participants discuss issues such as: What attracts newcomers to Europe?; or What makes others want to move away from the European Union?

For him, the best part of his experience was “meeting new friends from different parts of the world” and having had the “chance” to speak to them even if they live in far away countries.

Hadri was impacted about how much the course has changed him: “The difference between "me" in the first session and "me" in the last session is remarkable. At first, I was anxious, stressed and afraid of meeting new people. But during the course, my speaking and listening skills improved. I am no longer afraid of expressing myself in front of my new friends”.

Hadri assures, Erasmus+ Virtual Exchanges give participants “the chance to express ourselves freely. Everyone says what's on their mind without being afraid to be judged by others.”

“The project had an impact on my everyday life too. I learned a lot about different cultures and countries; Poland, Syria, the UK, Italy and Portugal.”
