Archaeology, Heritage and Education, short-term volunteering in Murcia (Spain)

RED INTERNACIONAL B-LIVE

ASOCIACIÓN PATRIMONIO SANTOMERA

EL SISCAR- SANTOMERA, Spanien

Beskrivning

Patrimonio Santomera is a cultural non-profit association based in the Region of Murcia, Spain, bringing together professionals from fields such as History, Archaeology, Geography, Art History, Biology and Geology. Its mission is to research, preserve and promote the cultural and natural heritage of the area, combining scientific work with accessible public outreach. This volunteering experience focuses on supporting an archaeological project in Santomera during August and September. Volunteers will take part in excavation activities, learning about archaeological methods, heritage preservation and local history through hands-on work. After the excavation, volunteers will support inventory tasks, organisation of materials and creation of content for social media and digital dissemination, helping to make local heritage more visible. This is a great opportunity for young people interested in archaeology, heritage and communication!

Logi, mat och transporter

It will all be managed by the coordinating organization, the association Red Internacional B-Live. All arrangements will be made in accordance with the European Solidarity Corps Guide 2026. The volunteer will receive a daily allowance of €11 to cover pocket money and food costs. Local transport related to the volunteering activities will be covered by the project. The volunteer will receive a public transport pass or reimbursement of travel costs necessary for participating in the activities. If needed, the volunteer will also be provided with a bicycle.

Utbildning under verksamheten

The volunteer will receive on-the-job training and continuous support from the hosting organisation, including an introduction to the project, the local context and the planned activities. A mentor will guide the volunteer throughout the experience, supporting learning through daily activities, teamwork and reflection. As most participants communicate mainly in Spanish, basic knowledge of Spanish is a plus for interacting with participants and the team, though not required.

Deltagarens profil

We are looking for a motivated, open-minded and responsible young person interested in archaeology, history, cultural heritage and community-based cultural work. The volunteer should enjoy hands-on activities, especially outdoors, as the main part of the experience will involve supporting an archaeological excavation in Santomera. Being proactive, flexible and careful is important, as well as having curiosity, patience and willingness to learn about archaeological methods, heritage preservation and local history. After the excavation period, the volunteer will also support inventory tasks, organisation of materials and the creation of communication content for social media and digital dissemination. Previous experience in archaeology, heritage, volunteering or communication is welcome, but not essential. Intermediate knowledge of English will help with coordination, while a basic level of Spanish is a strong plus, especially for daily communication and integration with the local team. However, the most important qualities are motivation, respect for cultural heritage, teamwork spirit and openness to learning in a local and intercultural environment.
