The host organization is a youth center established by the municipality of Piran in 2001. It operates in two locations on the Slovenian coast: Piran and Lucija. Your mission will be to provide a safe space for young people to spend their free time, to organize extracurricular activities (such as theater, language clubs, and arts), and to offer support and guidance with homework and studying. As a youth worker, your tasks will include engaging in conversations and activities with children and youth, leading various recreational, creative, and educational workshops, promoting the ESC program in local high schools and universities, and assisting with summer day care for younger primary school children. Your additional role will involve leading language clubs, helping with homework, and assisting with presentations at local elementary and high schools. Living and working with people from diverse backgrounds will help you develop teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Majutus, toitlustus, transport
You will be accommodated in a shared apartment together with other international volunteers. There are two bedrooms (one single room and one to share), one bathroom, one toilet, one kitchen, balcony and living room. The flat is equipped with everything you need. The flat is close to your workplace. Additionally, you will receive a monthly allowance as pocket money, along with a separate allowance as food money (in total around 360€/month). Also, you will receive a monthly bus transport card. The travel from Italy to Slovenia and back is fully reimbursed. An insurance company will protect you.
Koolitused tegevuse ajal
You'll attend 3 official training sessions: a pre-departure one before leaving Italy, an on arrival one a few weeks after your advent in Slovenia and a third one at around half of your volunteering. During the first week of the project, you will have a welcome week, during which you and the other volunteers will participate in various activities and trainings to prepare for working in a youth center.
Osaleja profiil
As an ideal volunteer, you should be flexible, open to learn, and curious. For this specific project, patience is essential, as working with children and youth can be challenging, and things may not always go as planned. You should feel comfortable working with children and teenagers, be proactive, and not be afraid to propose and implement new activities.
