Sustainable living is a topic that is ever more relevant for every European, and self-sufficiency may become increasingly important for young people. However, the knowledge and skills for actually living sustainably and self-sufficiently can be hard to come by - in this project, we aim to develop knowledge and real experience of those practices in our local community through work on our garden. Lojtra’s garden began as a community garden about 7 years ago when a group of local enthusiasts met weekly to grow together. Nowadays, we are working towards transforming it into an learning garden, which serves as a location for workshops and as a good example of practices for working with permaculture on a small scale. We are looking for a volunteer to help with this process of transition and to assist in organising and carrying out workshops on the garden, including with a local social welfare center. Ubytování, stravování, doprava
We will provide you with accommodation in an apartment with a kitchen, which you will share with two other volunteers. Two volunteers will share one larger room and one will be alone in a smaller room. We will provide you with an allowance for food so that you can choose what to use in preparing your own meals. The accommodation is within cycling distance to the school and our office, where you will work and we will provide a bicycle. There is a train station in Litija which connects to the 3 largest cities in Slovenia and many other locations.
Odborná příprava během činnosti
We will offer initial training when you enter our organisation, on how we work and our approach to youth work and experiential learning. You will have the opportunity to gain knowledge on topics related to sustainable living and permaculture gardening as well as growing and using medicinal herbs. The Online Linguistic Support of ESC will get you started with Slovenian and many other languages and we can also provide additional support like Slovene or English language classes if you need them.
Profil účastníka
As our volunteer you should have: a good grasp of English, enough to be able to hold a conversation; some experience of gardening or a strong interest in learning, especially ecological practices; enthusiasm for the project, as we want a volunteer who really wants to carry out the project and to be here with us!; independence and interests of your own (to make the most of this experience, it's good to know what you want to take from it - if you don't know concretely yet, having a feeling for your own identity and a desire to do for yourself is a great start.)
