The Diakoniewerk is an innovative company active in the various fields of work in the social and health sector in Austria and internationally. It designs contemporary offers for people with disabilities, for people in old age, in the health sector and in education. The development of new, social space-oriented housing concepts is in the foreground.

The Diakoniewerk is involved in district work, family counselling, and refugee work and in the field of poverty migration. Several companies as well as a further education academy and 3 homes for students complement the broad field of activities.

The Diakoniewerk draws on more than 145 years of experience in caring for and accompanying people. Today, more than 3400 employees contribute with their professional competence and experience in more than 200 institutions as well as a large number of additional services. Volunteers are a valuable asset.

Diakoniewerk is a member of Diakonie Österreich, one of the five major welfare organisations in Austria.

The participants*/ Volunteers will work in the field of people with disabilities and people in old age. Their activities are oriented towards the respective place of work and the people living there and range from leisure activities, support of people in their everyday life to the support of people with disabilities in the employment sector.

Volunteers should be open and have an understanding of the needs of people with disabilities and people in old age. Flexibility and patience are also an advantage, as far as humour and joy in being together with people are concerned. Values such as respect, trust, communication and diversity are equally important.
In the beginning it is about getting to know each other and the possible tasks and good communication, because people with disabilities have usually not learned a foreign language and people with dementia have forgotten much of it.
