It is the largest health service provider in the region between Trier, Koblenz, Kaiserslautern and Saarbrücken and the Academic Teaching Hospital of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. In the supply area Rheinhessen-Nahe the hospital has been a residential center for health services since the 19th century.
