Sydslesvigsk Forening is the main cultural organization representing the Danish minority in Southern Schleswig. With approximately 16,000 members, SSF is the largest Danish association outside Denmark.
We believe that the Danish minority plays an active part in everyday life and that their perspectives and life experiences positively contributes to the broader European cultural and linguistic diversity.
SSF connects members of the minority across the region through 62 local branches (districs – divided into six counties) and ensures the continued existence of Danish language, identity and cultural life. These local branches are a crucial part of SSF’s structure and ensure widespread access to cultural engagement and activities to the broader local audience. Furthermore, SSF organizes and facilitates a broad range of Danish cultural events throughout the region that celebrate community, cultural heritage, and our identity as a national minority.
In accordance with European values, our events and activities are designed to foster cross-border dialogue, strengthen mutual understanding, and create lasting relationships between people and organizations on both sides of the Danish German border – and between the minority and majority.
Furthermore, we want to continue to highlight our diverse border region and empathize the fact that it can be viewed as a model for other regions – with peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
