Become a journalist from the EU to the world

Sist oppdatert Tirsdag, 29/07/2025

Thanks to a strong interconnection, resulting from the spread of the internet, it is nowadays easier to play your part in a cause and feel actively involved in a digital way. Discover how you can make your voice heard!

We have always felt the need to tell stories, report about what we experience, dream, think and share it with others. This human desire of communication is the foundation of storytelling, literature, enriching conversations and journalism too.

You can start where you are, right now!

Creating a blog or webpage is easy, free and accessible to everyone wishing to express and share with others their opinions, perspectives or expose different realities. This can be a great starting point for you to feel you have your “own place” and get a taste of a more professional manner to report other than social media.

If you want to go beyond your opinion and personal views on different affairs and upgrade the game, you can take advantage of free online courses for journalists accessible on Open Media Hub: for example on How does the European Union work? or How to report on Europe? You can also have a look at the resources provided by the European Journalism Center

After that, you can get some inspiration from What Europe does for me to create your own piece.

Be mindful of the power of words

Greater connectivity and endless possibilities to express opinions or views across the globe come with risks posed by disinformation and fake news.

Whether you decide to write or share information in a more innovative and creative way, it is essential to read and check different news outlets before believing something is true, and verify the information (going to the original source if possible!) before you share it with others.

To help journalists and people to share reliable and truthful information, the EU has put in place a Code of Practice on Disinformation. To bring to life the Code’s commitments, the Commission launched SOMA (Social Observatory for Disinformation and Social Media Analysis) where you can ask any post, tweet or reference to be verified!

Connect with others

If writing only for your platform feels lonely and you would like to form part of a greater community: you can engage with platforms like European Youth Press and contribute to collaborative initiatives like:

  • Cafébabel, a participatory magazine covering a wide range of topics - and born as a result of the Erasmus programme!
  • Are We Europe aims at giving answers to one important question: “What it means to be European in an increasingly chaotic world”. You can become a member for a small fee or access their weekly free content in their newsletter. They also publish their calls for pitches for contributions.
  • Le Taurillon publishes content in 7 European languages about current affairs, politics, culture and economics. Don’t hesitate to submit your pitch because it’s open to external contributions!
  • UNICEF’s Voices of Youth initiative invites young people between 18 and 25, willing to change the world, to write either blog posts (interviews, poems, personal stories and more) or the so-called “sparks” (tiny flashes of positivity).
  • Global Voices Online, which works as a multilingual community of bloggers, journalists, translators, academics, and human rights activists.
  • Pool of Young Journalists, created by Eurodesk and the European Commission, is an initiative that aims to help young people gain a wider audience by creating content for the European Youth Portal. In the meantime, they can enhance their journalistic skills by experimenting with different storytelling techniques such as writing articles, creating videos, producing podcasts, and photojournalism, all on themes of interest to young people.
  • PulseZ is a branch of the European Youth Press which was launched in 2024. PulseZ is an online media platform where young aspiring journalists can create content, engage in media training and access  mentorship.

You can also explore Eurodesk Opportunity Finder, since it regularly features events, workshops, innitives, scholarships all related to journalism.
