Camp Leader

Veraldarvinir

Worldwide Friends-Veraldarvinir

Hafnarfjörður, Island

Kirjeldus

The project focuses on promoting environmental awareness in all aspects and addresses a global need for more sustainable practices. Its main goal is to raise awareness about sustainability among young people—both local and international—and encourage them to integrate eco-friendly habits into their daily lives. We aim to inspire fresh ideas that can help young participants and the organization improve the way we care for our planet. Camp Leaders work collaboratively as a team under remote supervision. They are responsible for organizing and leading programs for both short-term and long-term volunteers, who typically participate in 5–7 hours of environmental work on weekdays. In addition to coordinating daily activities, Camp Leaders take part in nature-oriented, educational, and environmental protection projects across Iceland. Each volunteer group is supported by two to three leaders from the organization to ensure safety, guidance, and a meaningful learning experience.

Majutus, toitlustus, transport

Participants stay at the Worldwide Friends Houses, which offer fully equipped facilities. Beds and bed linens are provided, along with wireless internet access and a washing machine. Rooms typically accommodate 2, 4, or 6 volunteers. Food ingredients are supplied; however, all participants are expected to share cooking and cleaning responsibilities. Since it’s always enjoyable to try new dishes, volunteers are encouraged to bring their favorite recipes (and spices) from home!

Koolitused tegevuse ajal

The project offers meaningful learning opportunities for volunteers, our organization, and the local community. ESC volunteers help strengthen our international dimension through internships, educational tours, and environmental projects. Participants join a 1-week WF Training Program plus the National Agency’s On-Arrival Training. Throughout their service, volunteers gain sustainability skills, learn basic Icelandic, lead creative sessions, and design and implement their own personal project.

Osaleja profiil

We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated, and self-driven volunteers who are eager to take initiative, work independently, and contribute fresh ideas and scalable solutions that support climate action and sustainable living. A good command of English is required, as it is the main working language in our camps. Ideal candidates are open-minded, adaptable, and ready to live in a multicultural environment with other international volunteers. A commitment to sustainability and a genuine interest in addressing global environmental challenges are essential. A strong appreciation for Iceland’s nature and a desire to explore its unique landscapes will greatly enhance your experience. While a background in Environmental Science is an advantage, it is not required. We highly value volunteers who enjoy outdoor activities—such as hiking, camping, or swimming—as many project tasks and excursions take place in nature.
