Community Recovery Program through Volunteer Activities

Deskrizzjoni

Youth will be involved in social inclusion activities with children and youth (arts, crafts, sports, music, dance, games, non-formal learning, etc.),international volunteer camps, environmental awareness and sustainability activities, eco gardening and much more. Volunteers will participate in activities and workshops with children and youth but also with earthquake affected elderly as an intergenerational element and promote resilience and recovery. Suncokret Center for Community Development runs a local volunteer center and a community center in a beautiful rural postwar area. At the Suncokret community center we provide afterschool nonformal learning activities for the local children and youth. We provide everything from educational activities, to arts/crafts, games, sports, fun and creative workshops. We conduct environmental awareness and sustainability workshops, eco gardening and maintaining our organic gardens and orchards and conduct eco construction activities.

Akkomodazzjoni, ikel u arranġamenti tat-trasport

The accommodation is walking distance from Suncokret community center. It is a house share and most often volunteers have their own rooms while they share a bathroom and kitchen with others. There may be temporary periods of sharing rooms. Volunteers will receive a food allowance once a month from the hosting organization. Volunteers purchase and cook their own meals. In addition, the hosting organization will give the volunteers pocket money allowance once a month. Volunteers have international health insurance and travel to the volunteer location is covered to a certain amount.

Taħriġ matul l-attività

Suncokret will appoint a mentor for volunteers. The mentor will provide personal support to the volunteer, and will be available in crisis or conflict situation and support volunteers in various situations and assist with self-directed learning, including Youthpass. The supervisor will support volunteers’ in work related tasks. Upon arrival the volunteers will receive an introduction and on-arrival orientation, description of community and project and customs. There will be daily language learning opportunities. We offer inclusion activities and additional support.

Profil tal-parteċipant

We are looking for motivated young people (18-30 years old) from Erasmus + program countries. Volunteers should be communicative, open, motivated, creative, self-reliant, enthusiastic, eager to learn and to share knowledge/skills and enjoy working with children and youth. Volunteers should be willing to participate actively in projects and activities. Volunteers will work independently and also as part of a team and live with others in the volunteer accommodation. The volunteer also must be open minded and be ready to live in a rural setting and open to cultural differences and intercultural learning.
