Deskrizzjoni

Volunteering opportunity in a residential centre hosting 400 mentally handicapped adults. The centre is located in a small village in Neufvilles. The volunteer's tasks consist of daily practical and educational supervision of the disabled person. They will be involved in a home hosting 15 residents. The volunteer will be included support the educational and pedagogical team in the day-to-day supervision of the residents (helping dressing up, cooking meals, playing with the residents, going for a walk,...). They will also be involved in activities (painting, soap, iron/woodwork, farm, etc.) where they will help the residents to carry out the tasks proposed to them. The volunteers will gradually be asked to carry out different tasks at their own pace. He will also have the chance to carry out it's own projects/ideas. The volunteer will help to organise the centre's events throughout the year (carnival, soapbox race, special olympics, etc.) and holiday trips organised for residents.

Akkomodazzjoni, ikel u arranġamenti tat-trasport

The volunteer will live in a furnished studio apartment close to the centre (2.5km). The train station is 200m away. There are buses and trains to Mons and Soignies on weekdays and Saturdays, and trains to Brussels and Mons every day from Soignies. It is also possible to borrow a vehicle from the centre for trips to Soignies station. Food is provided by the centre 7/7. Volunteers can order food from the bursar's office and cook for themselves in their studio. They can also eat in the centre's canteen or with the residents when they work in the evening.

Taħriġ matul l-attività

The volunteers take part in the 2 training courses organised by the national agency for ESC volunteers, as well as the 4 residential seminars organised by the SPJ team (coordinating organisation). They regularly attend team meetings and have a tutor, a person within the institution to guide them during their experience. The tutor is the coordinator of the home. French lessons on site are possible. They will learn a great deal, which can be summarised as follows: Discovering and progressing in the world of social work and, more specifically, the world of people with learning disabilities.

Profil tal-parteċipant

Someone who is interested in people with mental disabilities. Someone who wants to get involved in a social project. Someone who is interested in differences and meeting new people. The activity is fully in french (the team and the residents speaks french) so someone curious to learn french, interested in working in an environment that is different from their everyday life, self-motivated, wanting to make a contribution to society. Everybody can be involved there regarding it's own aims, skills, specificities.
