Kampala School for the Physically Handicapped (KSPH) is a primary school catering for the educational needs of the disabled children in Uganda. Started in 1968 by a few parents of cerebral palsied children, the school aims at educating, rehabilitating and equipping physically handicapped children for self- reliance and development. It follows the national syllabus including co-curricular activities like sports, music, dance and drama, spiritual fellowship and education tours. It also offers vocational subjects like tailoring, screen printing, craft, tie and dye and computer training to all the children that can not continue with further education. The school has an enrollment of 100 pupils with physical disabilities between the ages of 6 – 18. They include those with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spinal bifida and polio amongst others.

Volunteers will stay at Villa Mamu, Mengo, Kampala, a spacious compound with WiFi, warm showers, kitchen facilities for self-catering, and pets to make the stay homely. To immerse more deeply into the local culture, volunteers will spend some days living with a host family near Kikooba School. Other accommodation options can be arranged in Kampala based on safety, convenience, and security considerations. Local transport primarily consists of boda-bodas (motorcycle taxis), which provide fast and flexible movement within the community.

As part of the BRIDGE Project (Building Resilience, Innovation, Development, and Gender Equality), volunteers will work toward empowering vulnerable communities, especially women. Training includes skills development workshops, digital literacy enhancement, participation in UN Women Summits, and facilitating digital training sessions. Volunteers will gain hands-on experience in capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and social impact-driven project execution while refining leadership and communication skills.
Профил на участника
Experience working with children with special needs is preferred. Volunteers should be emotionally resilient, patient, compassionate, and strong communicators. Skills in special needs care, occupational therapy, or physiotherapy are an added advantage. The role requires someone who can work calmly with children with disabilities, handle challenging situations with maturity, and respond with empathy and an open heart.
