Opis

The mission supports APRODEH’s commitment to territorial rights and food sovereignty in the Andean highlands of Huanta. As part of the EVER project, the volunteer assists in implementing political and social advocacy strategies to achieve the official declaration of the Agrobiodiversity Zone (ZABD). This initiative protects native seeds and ancestral techniques in the Culluchaca and Uchuraccay communities, ensuring the recognition of Andean culture and resilience as a fundamental human right. The volunteer’s tasks include: Advocacy Support: Assisting in the evaluation of communication strategies for the legal approval of the ZABD and territorial protection. Policy Engagement: Contributing to regional and national coordination spaces regarding the national seed law. Communication: Preparing content to disseminate project priorities and community rights. Awareness: Organizing virtual and face-to-face spaces for dialogue on biodiversity.

Ubytovanie, strava a doprava

The volunteer will be based in Ayacucho, a city equipped with all basic services. APRODEH will identify safe accommodation for the volunteer. Monthly, the volunteer will receive a daily allowance and pocket money in accordance with the Peruvian standard of living to cover food, local transport, and telephone expenses. Travel expenses for the international journey are covered. A tutor or program manager will provide continuous support to resolve any unforeseen events. Comprehensive health insurance is provided for the duration of the mission.

Odborná príprava počas činnosti

The deployment begins in Lima with an induction on health, safety, and local culture. In Ayacucho, the volunteer will receive specific training on political advocacy and the region's agrobiodiversity. The volunteer will have the opportunity to learn Quechua (the second language of the local population) and explore the cultural richness of Huamanga. Visits to Culluchaca and Accomarca will allow the volunteer to experience a culture with high levels of resilience. The mission promotes non-formal learning and intercultural exchange throughout the project.

Profil účastníka

The volunteer must be aged 18–35 and reside in an eligible country. Candidates must have completed the mandatory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and have no previous long-term participation in this strand. The required profile includes a professional background in Communication for Development or similar fields and an intermediate level of Spanish, which is essential for professional tasks. The volunteer should demonstrate knowledge or interest in political and social advocacy, alongside a strong interest in Latin American culture and environmental issues. Adaptability to high-altitude environments and a commitment to the defense of human rights in indigenous Andean communities are also required. Total duration of EU volunteering must not exceed 12 months.
