Project SOLARIC seeks 1 volunteer willing to spend 6 months supporting a newly build youth community centers for vocational training and empowerment of girls and young women in Namayumba, Uganda. The volunteer will be hosted by Uganda Pioneers Association and join a local team working at UYSTO community center in the village of Namayumba. Team SOLARIC wishes to contribute to a strong and resilient local community where youth can grow and develop to their full potential for independent living. The volunteer will join UYSTO team and help their project management and fundraising activities aiming to provide support for the construction of the training center and in-house vocational workshops for girls and young women who help them become financially independent and encourage entrepreneurial spirit.

SOLARIC volunteers are accommodated in shared furnished rooms within the dormitory at UYSTO community center in Namayumba. They also share bathrooms, kitchen and common areas with other volunteers. Volunteers are in charge of their own grocery shopping, cooking and manage their own food allowance. Volunteers can walk, use a taxi or the boda boda (hired motorcycles) daily to and from the service centers.
Taħriġ matul l-attività
Solaric volunteers receive pre-departure training delivered online by the sending organizations. Upon arrival in Uganda they will join a 3-day orientation session with UPA and a subsequent 1-day mid-term online sessions with the project team. At the UYSTO community center each volunteer will get additional instructions on what donors and projects they are working on and what help and support is needed in the fundraising plan and activities.

Eligibility for Individual volunteering: Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months. Please note the latter is a new rule regarding past participation of volunteers introduced in the 2024 Programme Guide, limiting the participation to maximum 12 months. SOLARIC volunteer is someone who: · Exhibit passion/enthusiasm for helping rural communities and youth with fewer opportunities + have some background and/or knowledge of fundraising and funding proposal writing · Are patient and flexible · Are friendly and open minded · Are creative and have a sense of humor · Are honest, caring and reliable · Exhibit effective communication skills appropriate for children · Have respect for differences in personality, culture and lifestyle · Have a willingness to learn and share knowledge and experiences We welcome proactive and motivated applicants who share the core values of the ESC. Young people with fewer opportunities are invited to apply and indicate the type of support needed to ease their engagement and active participation.
