CRECER - Supporting Tránsito Amaguaña School and communities in Quito

Volunteers will support activities at Tránsito Amaguaña School, in Mercade Mayorista in Quito. Tasks include: -Educational and classroom support, daily tutoring and learning reinforcement to children at the school, supporting teachers during lessons, assisting children with reading, writing, and basic math, preparing simple educational materials, and helping with small group or one-on-one activities. -SkillBoost workshops: Every three months, you help facilitate a workshop on topics like peace, digital literacy, innovation or higher education. -Youth circles: You will assist in organizing and facilitating peer group sessions focused on emotional well-being, identity and shared challenges. Tasks may include preparing discussion topics, guiding group dynamics, encouraging participation and creating a safe and respectful space for open dialogue. -Community outreach: Participate in and support the organization of activities involving parents, educators and local community members.

You will live in one of two volunteer apartments located in La Mena, in the southern part of Quito. Each apartment has three spacious, well-equipped rooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom. The apartments also have a small living room with seating and a shared rooftop terrace with a nice view over the south of Quito (shared with the homeowners). Getting around is easy: the Mercado Mayorista is reachable in 20-30 minutes by bus and the Solanda metro station is within 30 minutes on foot. Metro connects perfectly the south side of the city with the north side (0.45 cents).

-During welcoming days sessions, we will cover the CRECER Project information (goals and expectations), security in Ecuador, interculturality and other details about your experience. General support for practical matters and preparation for the experience. -30 hours of Spanish classes with a private teacher, fully covered by the project and Fundación VASE. This is a great opportunity to build or strengthen your language skills before and during your deployment. -Task related training. -Pre-departure preparation.

Volunteers need to be between 18-35 years old, genuinely interested and motivated to contribute to the project activities. Applicants should have successfully completed the Humanitarian Aid preparatory training organised by EACEA and be eligible to participate per program rules. In addition, they should be aware of the 12-month ESC participation limit rule which applies for all ESC projects. Specific interests or skills that can be extra for volunteers include: -Interest to work or previous experience working in activities with children and youth. Non-formal methods will be mostly utilized during the activities, boosting creativity, expression and learning. -Interest to operate within marginalized communities and support the implementation of actions that enhance local activation. A decent level of English is necessary for participants as the first means to facilitate communication. Knowledge of some level of Spanish is welcomed, but not a pre-requisite, as language courses will be provided as a supporting means before and during the experience. In any case, applicants should be motivated to improve to at least a basic level through the courses, that will facilitate their daily tasks and communication with the children and locals. Pre-departure preparation will be implemented by United Societies of Balkans (Greece), coordinating organisation of the project, and sending partners Scambieuropei and AIPC Pandora, who will also be active in the recruitment.
