The Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft für Paritätische Sozialarbeit (GPS) offers a wide range of social services for children, young people and adults with disabilities in Northern Germany. Our goal is always to support and encourage people to live their lives as independently as possible. The Wohngruppe Gulfhof provides housing for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. Qualified staff support residents with personal care, daily routines, and recreational activities, as well as with administrative tasks and doctor’s appointments. During the day, residents work in our workshops. Retired residents have the option of attending a day care center. Services are offered seven days a week, primarily in the afternoons and evenings, as well as on weekends. Your responsibilities include assisting the staff with daily activities and individual tasks. You’ll encourage residents to participate in programs, outings, and events. Caregiving tasks typically require only minimal assistance. Household duties include setting up the common room, helping to keep the rooms tidy, and preparing meals. You can get involved in projects such as seasonal celebrations and are welcome to implement your own ideas.

Die Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft für Paritätische Sozialarbeit (GPS) bietet eine breite Palette sozialer Dienstleistungen für Kinder, Jugendliche und Erwachsene mit Behinderungen. Es geht immer darum, wie wir Menschen dabei unterstützen und ermutigen können, ihr Leben so selbstständig wie möglich zu gestalten. Die Wohngruppe Gulfhof bietet Wohnraum für Erwachsene mit körperlichen und geistigen Beeinträchtigungen. Fachkräfte unterstützen die Bewohner*innen in der Pflege, bei täglichen Routinen und Freizeitaktivitäten, administrativen Aufgaben und Arztterminen. Tagsüber arbeiten die Bewohner*innen in unseren Werkstätten. Für pensionierte Bewohner*innen besteht die Möglichkeit, ein Tagespflegezentrum zu besuchen. Der Service wird sieben Tage die Woche angeboten, hauptsächlich nachmittags und abends sowie an den Wochenenden. Deine Aufgaben umfassen die Unterstützung der Fachkräfte bei täglichen Aktivitäten und individuellen Aufgaben. Du motivierst zur Teilnahme an Angeboten, Ausflügen und Veranstaltungen. Pflegeaufgaben sind meist nur minimal unterstützend. Zu den Haushaltstätigkeiten gehört das Vorbereiten des Gruppenraums, die Unterstützung bei der Ordnung in den Zimmern und die Zubereitung der Mahlzeiten. Du kannst dich in Projekte wie saisonale Feste einbringen und auch gerne eigene Ideen umsetzen.

There will be a group of eight international volunteers who will spend a year at GPS and live in three shared apartments. A volunteer coordinator will show you how to spend your free time in and around Wilhelmshaven: cultural events, theaters, museums, the beach, or whatever else interests you. You’ll all receive a Deutschlandticket so you can explore nearby cities like Bremen or Hamburg—or other parts of Germany on your days off. When you arrive, we’ll let you know about nearby supermarkets and other important places.

Es wird eine Gruppe von acht internationalen Freiwilligen geben, die ein Jahr bei der GPS verbringen und in drei Wohngemeinschaften leben. Eine ehrenamtliche Helferin wird euch zeigen, wie ihr eure Freizeit in und um Wilhelmshaven verbringen könnt: kulturelle Veranstaltungen, Theater, Museen, der Strand oder was euch sonst interessiert. Ihr bekommt alle ein Deutschlandticket, um nahegelegene Städte wie Bremen oder Hamburg oder an freien Tagen weitere Teile Deutschlands zu erkunden. Wir informieren dich bei deiner Ankunft über nahegelegene Supermärkte und andere wichtige Orte.

At your workplace, you will be guided by a qualified and experienced person who is responsible for helping you get settled into your daily work routine. A personal mentor from our Volunteer Services Department will serve as your point of contact and stay in regular touch with you. He or she will be responsible for providing educational support and addressing your questions and needs. In addition, you’ll participate in our training seminars alongside a group of German volunteers and take German language classes. At the end of your assignment, you’ll receive a Youthpass certificate. As a coordinating organisation, our umbrella organisation the Paritätischer Niedersachsen will also provide support before, during and after your volunteer service.

Am Arbeitsplatz wird dich eine qualifizierte und erfahrene Person anleiten, die für deine Einarbeitung in den Arbeitsalltag verantwortlich ist. Ein persönlicher Mentor aus unserer Abteilung für Freiwilligendienste wird dein Ansprechpartner sein und regelmäßig mit dir in Kontakt stehen. Er/sie ist für die pädagogische Begleitung sowie für deine Fragen und Bedürfnisse zuständig. Zusätzlich wirst du an unseren Bildungsseminaren zusammen mit einer Gruppe deutscher Freiwilliger teilnehmen und Deutschunterricht erhalten. Am Ende deiner Tätigkeit erhältst du ein Youthpass-Zertifikat. Als koordinierende Organisation stellt auch der Paritätische Niedersachsen vor, während und nach deinem Freiwilligendienst Unterstützung bereit.
