Baunataler Diakonie Kassel e.V. is a church-based, diaconal organization with its own facilities and various holdings in the fields of disability and addiction aid. In the area of assistance for the disabled, the association maintains residential facilities and recognized workshops for people with disabilities, as well as inclusive businesses in accordance with § 215 SGB IX in the city and district of Kassel and in the Schwalm-Eder district. In the residential sector, around 1,000 people with disabilities are currently being cared for. In the workshops, more than 1,430 mentally, emotionally and multiply disabled people are currently cared for with the aim of integrating them into social and professional life. In the inclusive businesses, we enable more than 160 disabled and non-disabled people to participate in work.

The Hofgeismar residential facilities form an association of seven residential homes at various locations in Hofgeismar, Wolfhagen and Grebenstein-Burguffeln. A total of about 133 mentally and multiply handicapped people from the North Hessian region are accompanied and supported by about 160 employees in the Hofgeismar residential homes in the sense of community-oriented integrative work. The residents are provided with a living environment close to normality and social inclusion in the areas of "living" and "leisure". The focus is on promoting independence while at the same time striving to ensure lifelong living ("at home"). An important goal of our work is to enable the residents to live as autonomously as possible and to give them only the help they need. This exclusively individual support helps to realize integration into the local community. Another important task is the organization of the topics: Language, work and living environment. In this way, individual participation can be made possible for the individual.

The concrete host project, the day support at our location in Hofgeismar, represents a part of this complex. Here our residents can spend their daily routine meaningfully in community. This group offers a service for residents who, due to their age or the severity of their disability, do not (or no longer) attend the workshop for disabled people. In the day group, various day-structuring activities are carried out on the weekdays, which are intended to give the residents orientation in their daily routine and enable them to do something meaningful. A weekly schedule with fixed daily activities such as singing together, artistic design, basal stimulation, excursions, measures to maintain practical life skills through cooking, baking and shopping is supplemented by individual support measures such as training in gross and fine motor skills, movement exercises and biography work. The task of the staff is to encourage the residents to take part in various day-structuring activities and thus make a significant contribution to maintaining and improving their quality of life.
