The DRA´s objective is to strengthen European civil society, with a focus on exchange between Eastern Europe and Germany. Founded in Berlin in 1992 (originally as “German-Russian Exchange”), the organisation has been working with partners throughout Eastern and Central Europe since the late 1990s, supporting open and peaceful cooperation, in particular between Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other Eastern Partnership countries – for a democratic Europe without borders. The DRA implements programs and projects in the following areas: international cooperation and conflict resolution; civil society; democracy, human and civil rights; youth and education; climate and environment protection; media, society, history, social affairs, integration, inclusion; voluntary/civic engagement. We connect people, organizations and societal sectors and seek to promote exchange, cooperation and debate to tackle prejudice and to foster openness and solidarity. As a member organisation, the DRA attributes a key role to any kind of voluntary commitment. All its activities are made possible only by joint efforts from its members, professional staff, volunteers, supporters and donors.

Der DRA setzt sich für die Stärkung der europäischen Zivilgesellschaft ein. Den Schwerpunkt bildet dabei der Austausch zwischen Osteuropa und Deutschland. 1992 in Berlin ursprünglich als "Deutsch-Russischer Austausch" („DRA“) gegründet, arbeitet unsere Organisation seit Ende der 1990er Jahre mit Partnern in ganz Ost- und Mitteleuropa zusammen. Der DRA unterstützt eine offene und friedliche Zusammenarbeit, insbesondere zwischen Deutschland, Russland, der Ukraine, Belarus und anderen Ländern der Östlichen Partnerschaft - für ein demokratisches Europa ohne Grenzen. Er verwirklicht Programme und Projekte in den Bereichen internationale Kooperation und Konfliktbearbeitung; Zivilgesellschaft; Demokratie, Menschenrechte, Bürgerrechte; Jugend und Bildung; Klima- und Umweltschutz; Medien, Gesellschaft, Geschichte, Soziales, Integration, Inklusion; freiwilliges/bürgerschaftliches Engagement. Wir verbinden Menschen, Organisationen und gesellschaftliche Bereiche und fördern Austausch, Kooperation und Debatte, um Vorurteile abzubauen und Offenheit und Solidarität zu stärken. Als Mitgliedsorganisation misst der DRA jeder Art von ehrenamtlichem Engagement eine wichtige Rolle bei. Alle Aktivitäten werden nur durch den gemeinsamen Einsatz von Mitgliedern, professionellen Mitarbeiter:innen, Freiwilligen, Förderern und Spendern ermöglicht.
