Established in 1939 Plungė Municipal Public Library began a new life in 2012, since the library moved to a reconstructed XIX century’s castle with a clock tower. The library building is a state protected cultural heritage site complete with restored mid-19th century clock mechanism. The clock tower, and now the library is a part of the ensemble of Duke Mykolas Oginskis' estate which is in the city park. This Ducal ensemble is important and significant in a cultural, social, and natural sense not only for the city but for the country also.

The library has more than 151,6 thousand physical documents in its archives.
The library employs 15 specialists who provides not only informational services.
The library is constantly evolving to meet needs of its diverse community.
The move to cultural heritage site has changed librarians lives as the place became not only home of books but place for tourist and visitors.

Library aims to: provide quality services that meet the needs of the community, promote a lifelong love reading and learning, particularly for our young people; provide library services and resources in multiple formats; improve the quality of services provided and develop new services that meet consumer needs; ensure the improvement of employees' skills and professional development; encourage collaboration with the local community and international partners; encourage participation in cultural events; use innovative technologies in activities; develop participation in national and EU- supported projects; create a friendly and attractive environment for tourists and other visitors; preserve and make available the unique history of Clock Tower and Duke Mykolas Oginskis estate; achieve to be recognized as modern and friendly library which is based in culture heritage object.
Due to this library’s target group varies from the youngest children to seniors who are not only in love with books but interested in cultural heritage and nature as well.
