Nell'ormai lontano 1996, alla vigilia della prima edizione di Festivaletteratura, partito da un'iniziativa "dal basso" di
semplici cittadini che hanno subito cercato di condividere la loro idea con il resto della città - ispirandosi a un modello
consolidato in altri Paesi Europei, in particolare dell'area anglosassone, il Festival è stato immediatamente fatto proprio
dalla comunità mantovana, come dimostrano l'adesione diffusa di piccole e grandi realtà economiche tra i sostenitori e gli
sponsor, la straordinaria partecipazione a livello di volontariato, la messa a disposizione di spazi o di altre collaborazioni
da parte di singole persone o di associazioni del territorio. A chiusura di ogni edizione del festival, l’opera di Filofestival
prosegue con varie iniziative alle quali i soci sono invitati a partecipare o a collaborare in qualsiasi periodo dell’anno,
secondo i propri interessi e compatibilmente con la propria disponibilità nel tempo libero. A partire dal gennaio di ogni
anno è possibile associarsi e sostenere il Festival allo scopo di rendere i cinque giorni della manifestazione mantovana
sempre più coinvolgenti: oggi gli amici del Festival sono oltre 3000 e vengono da ogni parte d’Italia, perfino dall'estero.
Ogni socio dà un apporto enorme al Festival: è anche grazie al contributo annuale dei soci che l'ente riesce a organizzare
ogni anno una manifestazione di alto livello, tanto ricca di eventi e di sollecitazioni culturali. Associarsi quindi è prima di
tutto un modo per sostenere attivamente la città e questa importante manifestazione. Al Festival partecipano narratori e
poeti di fama internazionale, le voci più interessanti delle letterature emergenti, e ancora saggisti, musicisti, artisti,
scienziati, secondo un'accezione ampia e curiosa della letteratura, che non si nega alla conoscenza di territori e linguaggi
lontani dai canoni tradizionali. Un'attenzione particolare è rivolta ai bambini e agli adolescenti: numerosi incontri,
spettacoli e laboratori sono pensati solo per i ragazzi o per adulti e ragazzi insieme. Il tutto a Mantova, una perla del
Rinascimento riconosciuta dall'Unesco patrimonio mondiale dell'umanità, dove la dimensione raccolta della città avvicina
autori e lettori, permettendo a tutti di spostarsi facilmente a piedi da un appuntamento all'altro.
In the now distant 1996, on the eve of the first edition of Festivaletteratura, started from an initiative "from below" of
simple citizens who immediately tried to share their idea with the rest of the city, inspired by a consolidated model in other
European countries - in particular in the Anglo-Saxon area - the Festival was immediately taken up by the Mantuan
community, as evidenced by the widespread adhesion of small and large economic entities among supporters and
sponsors, the extraordinary participation at the level of volunteering, the making available of spaces or other
collaborations by individuals or local associations. At the end of each edition of the festival, the work of Filofestival
continues with various initiatives to which members are invited to participate or collaborate at any time of the year,
according to their interests and compatibly with their availability in their free time. Starting from January of each year it is
possible to join and support the Festival so that the five days of the Mantua event are more and more engaging: today
there are more than 3000 friends of the Festival and they come from all over Italy, even from abroad. Each member gives
an enormous contribution to the Festival: it is also thanks to the annual contribution of the members that the Festival
manages to organize a high-level event every year, so full of events and cultural solicitations. So joining is first of all a
way to actively support the city and this important event. Internationally renowned narrators and poets, the most
interesting voices of emerging literatures, and still essays, musicians, artists, scientists, participate in the Festival
according to a broad and curious meaning of literature, which is not denied to the knowledge of territories and languages
far from traditional canons. Particular attention is paid to children and adolescents: numerous meetings, shows and
workshops are designed only for children or for adults and children together.

city brings authors and readers closer together, allowing everyone to easily move on foot from one appointment together.
